Following the retirement of the Cathedrals, George and the late Jake Hess briefly toured with the Old Friends Quartet. Also in the group were Ernie Haase, Wesley Pritchard (pictured) and Garry Jones.
In 1999, George was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall Of Fame.
When the Speers retired during their performance at the National Quartet Convention in the late 1990s, George was one of the very first artists to cross the stage to offer his congratulations and appreciation to the late Brock Speer.
Almost as well-known as his singing abilities was George's love for cowboy boots.
Glen Payne and Ernie Haase wait patiently to see which one of them would be on the receiving end of George's jokes. This photo was taken during one of the group's appearances in Fresno, CA.
